The Department of Science and Technology Region 1 (DOST-1) assists Balungao Patupat and Tuba Vendors Association (BPTVA) to improve existing local products offered by the locals of Balungao, through different technological interventions such as acquisition of appropriate equipment, packaging and labeling, product development and product standards and testing.

The association has 11 stalls identified in Barangay San Aurelio, first along the Balungao-Umingan road, which have been selling Sweet Tuba and Patupat along the highway since the early 90s.

The project fund was awarded to provide laboratory testing assistance to be included in their product labels and to improve the product packaging and labeling of their goods.

The assistance amounting to PhP 122,205.00 was awarded to the association represented by its president, Jovita B. Mariñas, together with the LBU Balungao PESO Manager Raquel T. Caseres and staff.

Mariñas extends her gratitude and appreciation to DOST-I in giving them assistance to improve the quality and packaging and labeling of their product.

The Provincial Science and Technology Center- Pangasinan Field Office (PSTC-PangFO), in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) Balungao, continue to identify the needs of the community and assist in the improvement of packaging and labeling of Sweet Tuba and Tuba Vinegar and other products.

DOST-I will continue to support the association in giving training and S&T interventions to improve their productivity and competitiveness. (By Cecilio R. Repancol, DOST-I)
