DOST Ilocos Region, DOST-ITDI hold webinar on #PACKitGREEN: Green Packaging for Sustainable Future image

VIGAN CITY, Ilocos Sur – As part of the celebration of the women’s month, the Department of Science and Technology Region I (DOST-I), through the Provincial Science and Technology Office – Ilocos Sur (PSTO-IS), in partnership with the DOST - Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), conducted a webinar titled #PACTitGREEN: Green Packaging for Sustainable Future to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) via ZOOM platform on 16 March 2023.

This activity aims to promote the packaging assistance and technologies of DOST-ITDI to the micro, small and medium enterprises or MSMEs and other interested parties or individuals. It also served as venue informing them about the packaging and labeling trends that they can adopt to improve their products and businesses in order to compete in the market.

Engr. Jordan L. Abad, Provincial S&T Director of the PSTO-IS expressed his gratitude to all the resource speakers and participants who attended the webinar. “Sama-sama po tayong makinig at matuto. Nawa’y magamit natin ang kaalamang ito upang lumago ang ating mga negosyo at makatulong din tayo in preserving our environment,” Engr. Abad said during his message as he hopes that through this endeavor, the participants particularly MSMEs will learn the new packaging innovations that can help them improve their products.

Four experts were tapped as resource speakers during the webinar. Darylle Jerome I. Ortiz, Science Research Analyst from the Packaging Technology Division of DOST-ITDI delivered a talk on the Introduction to Packaging. On the other hand, Engr. Ericson T. Nolasco, Senior Science Research Specialist elaborated on the Distribution Packaging for Export while Elyson Keith P. Encarnacion, Supervising Science Research Specialist, presented the current and future research on packaging technology. Lastly, Mary Joy P. Paico discussed various initiatives of the Packaging Technology Division of the DOST-ITDI on Sustainable Packaging and its services, highlighting the innovations in green packaging being developed in the institute.

Speaking to a total of 68 participants composed of MSMEs, representatives of the various agencies including DOST personnel from the different regions, women, students, faculty of various State Colleges and Universities (SUCs), and other individuals attended the webinar and gained insights on the latest trends in packaging materials.
