DOST-MIMAROPA, Palawan State University turn over digital business tools to food-based MSMEs image

Three food-based micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Palawan assisted by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) - MIMAROPA received a digitalization boost for their businesses after being provided with a Web-based Inventory Monitoring and Logistics Management System (WIMLMS) to streamline their operation for increase productivity.  

This initiative is part of DOST-MIMAROPA’s “Digitalization of Business Processes of Selected MSMEs” Project. The turnover ceremony was held at the Palawan State University (PSU) Amphitheater, PSU Main Campus, Barangay Tiniguiban, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan last 27 May 2022. 

The digitalization project aims to assist MIMAROPA MSMEs in improving their business operations and addressing customer needs through use of digital technology solutions. One of the main components of the project includes the development of inventory and logistics management system for enterprises. The information systems are being developed in collaboration with MIMAROPA State University and Colleges (SUCs).

WIMLMS is an automated inventory and order management tool developed by Palawan State University which aims to monitor the movement of finished products with real-time dashboard; and track the daily transactions of the business from production facility to the branches/customers.

The three pilot beneficiaries, namely: Palawan Adventist Health Products, Le Dessert Cakes and Pastries, and St. Ives Bakeshop who are also assisted by DOST-MIMAROPA through the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP) are now ready to integrate WIMLMS in their respective businesses. With this information system in place, other interested MSMEs in the region can now avail of this digital management tool.

Nagpapasalamat kami dahil kami ay napili na beneficiary sa program na ito. Thank you Ma’am Abilay sa walang sawang pagtulong sa amin,” said Marijoe Pialago, president of Palawan Adventist Hospital/Palawan Adventist Health Products. Palawan Adventist Health Products was assisted through SETUP in 2015.

Le Dessert Cakes and Pastries owner, Romelisa Bernardo expressed her gratitude to DOST for helping her increase productivity and paved the way for the expansion of her business. Le Dessert was assisted by DOST-MIMAROPA in 2016 through SETUP.    “Malaking tulong po tuloy-tuloy na suporta na binibigay ng DOST sa amin. Ngayon po, we have 90 employees sa Le Dessert sa buong Palawan. Ngayon po ito naman pong bagong tulong na binibigay ng DOST sa amin, which is the digital inventory system na eksakto po sa pangangailangan ng aming kompanya. Makatutulong po ito para ma- monitor po lahat ng inventory ng 12 branches— in terms of raw materials, in terms of the delivery of all stores sa buong Palawan. Salamat ng marami Sir Pyke and Director Abilay”.

Likewise, St. Ives Bakeshop, which has been assisted by DOST since 2018, was thankful for the various S&T assistance provided to them. “Since 2018, nag-start kami ng engagement with the DOST. Napakalaking tulong ng programa ng DOST para sa aming mga MSMEs para sa pagsisimula ng negosyo. Sana hindi po kayo magsawang tumulong sa amin mga MSMEs category. Maraming salamat po Sir Pyke and Ma’am Abilay sa pagtulong,” said owner, Yvonne Gatmaytan.

The turnover ceremony was attended by DOST-MIMAROPA Regional Director Dr. Ma. Josefina P. Abilay, the president of PSU Dr. Ramon Docto, Chair-designate of the PSU Board of Regents CHED Commissioner Dr. Jo Mark Libre, the beneficiaries, and the PSU ICT Team who developed the system.

Other information systems being developed under the Digitalization Project include the following: Inventory Processing System for Food Enterprise Sector (i-ProSES) by Occidental Mindoro State College (OMSC); Sales and Inventory Management System Based on Production Monitoring (SIMS) by Marinduque State College (MSC); MSME Inventory Monitoring System (MIMS) by Romblon State University (RSU); and the eH20 by Mindoro State University (MinSU).
