On 14 January 2022 the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Siquijor Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC), the Sangguniang Kabataan Provincial Federation, and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office joined hands in distributing highly nutritious Nutribun in three most affected barangays of typhoon Odette as per MDRRMO Siquijor assessment.  Dubbed “Bayanihan Feeding Program: By the Youth, For the Youth,” the group handed in a total of 300 pieces of

the mineral-packed Nutribun to the children of Barangays Caipilan, Pasihagon, and Tongo of Siquijor, Siquijor. The Nutribun is a food technology innovation developed by the DOST’s Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) using locally available nutritious vegetables and raw materials.

Hon. Brylle Deeiah Tomarong, the SKPF president sliced a pie from her personal money to buy packs of juice and biscuits to compliment the Nutribun. She was elated to witness a motley of smiling and happy kids as they received the care packages.  Equally, she was grateful that her office continues to be an agent in conducting community projects that help the youth in particular.

“A caregiving activity like this can eliminate stress and I hope for more collaboration with DOST for another community project,” said Tomarong.

The SK also visited an indigent, a senior citizen, and a victim of typhoon Odette in Barangay Songculan who showed the same expression of happiness and enthusiasm as that of the children.  One was heard saying, “Naa pa diay maluoy nako.”  (I am happy to know there are still people who care for me.” The effects of Odette have brought back the spirit of Bayanihan, helping hand, and volunteerism from among the youth.
