Stitch-Off to showcase students’ textile designs in 1st Sci-tech festival

The fusion of science, culture, and style is showcased in this year’s 1st National Youth Science, Technology, and Innovation Festival (NYSTIF) through the textile creations of students who participated in the Stitch-Off competition of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI).
Shortlisted participants will grace the stage with their clothing designs, which made use of Philippine tropical fabrics, such as pineapple, abaca, banana, or silk, during the NYSTIF event dubbed 2023 Tech-Know Fashion Show, which will be conducted on 26 October 2023 at 2:00 PM-5:00 PM at the Philippine International Convention Center Forum Tent.
The Stitch-Off competition aims to introduce Philippine textiles to the youth and serve as a platform for the industry’s development through the craftsmanship of young talents. The competition will also encourage the young designers to make use of Philippine tropical fibers and discover its unique appeal and functionality, thus creating a spark to bring life once more to Philippine textile using local innovations.
The competition welcomed entries from senior high school, vocational, and undergraduate students, with the theme Modern Filipino Streetwear.
The DOST-PTRI announced on 16 October 2023 the selection of the Top 12 finalists who will join the on-the-spot competition at the DOST Compound on 20-24 October 2023. The announcement of winners will also be held on 26 October 2023.
